Frequently Asked Questions

There are a number of technologies available today that enable virtual communication on the Internet. Here's a list of the most commonly asked questions and answers, features and benefits of webcasting.

Q: What is a webcast?
A: A webcast is an online presentation that delivers any combination of video, audio, presentation slides and chat features.
The video, audio and slides are one-way, from the host location outbound to the viewers. The chat feature allows two-way collaboration from the users back to the host presenter.

Q: What are the advantages of webcasting?
A: Webcasting offers the following advantages over in-person meetings:

  • Save costs associated with time, travel and accommodations;
  • Increase your viewing audience;
  • Increase the 'shelf life' of your message;
  • Can be live or archived (view-on-demand);
  • Can include pre-recorded media (e.g., overcome scheduling conflicts to include presenters that can't attend the live event).
  • Can be made accessible to include picture-in-picture sign language and/or captions in both live and archived formats;
  • Q: What sets you apart from other webcasting companies?
    A: Experience. Creativity. Passion.
    At Live Media, we see it as our job to bring your message to the masses, and we take it seriously. Having us produce your webcast is like having your own production company onsite. We use the the best people to produce the best results, and have a track record to prove it.

    Q: How many people can see the webcast?
    A: Webcasts can reach anyone with an internet connection and sufficient bandwidth. As a result, audiences can easily number into hundreds, even thousands of viewers.

    "The Government Q": As a government organization, we often have bandwidth issues. How can you help?
    A: We at Live Media Inc. are highly experienced with government IT infrastructure. In fact, one of our founders worked as an Ontario Public Servant for 10 years prior to Live Media, winning the Amethyst Award, Showcase Ontario Award of Excellence, and REALM (EDU/TCU) Award. As a proven best practice, Live Media will conduct a site inspection, bandwidth utilization study and conduct a 'practice' webcast prior to your event, to identify potential locations with difficulty and cultivate a positive viewing experience.

    "The Corporate Q": How can you help us deliver our message in the face of rising travel costs and increased cutbacks?
    A: Live Media webcasts are an effective, cost-saving and engaging alternative to in-person meetings. Turn what was once a costly annual meeting into an investment in a collaborative, professional and lasting experience, that can be referenced time and time again throughout the year. Leverage the recorded footage to make a highlight reel, a promotional video, or an online advertisement.

    "The A/V Company Q": We do hundreds of shows a year. How compatible are you with a fast-paced, high tech environment?
    A: Live Media has extensive experience working onsite in tandem with A/V companies. We exercise a high level of respect and professionalism while interacting with these suppliers, while at the same time offer the added value of redundancy, with the streaming/recording gear we use.

    "The Private Q": I'm getting married this summer and would love to include my family back home. Can you help?
    A: Live Media specializes in mobile webcasting with professional fixed-studio quality. If your site has sufficient bandwidth, we'll plug directly into your existing videographer, leveraging your investment and the videographer's talent to produce a show that all your extended family and friends can watch live. We'll even supply a chat feature to serve as a digital guestbook.
